Dove Tail Spear Point in Flint Ridge Chert

This Dovetail Spear Point is handcrafted from Flint Ridge Chert, a stone appreciated for its rich color palette and striking natural patterns. The blade displays a dramatic smoky blue-gray center surrounded by vivid orange and red translucent edges. Natural veining and subtle variations create movement across the surface, giving the piece depth and ensuring that no two examples are ever alike.

Measuring approximately 7 inches long and 2 inches wide, the spear point features the broad proportions and graceful symmetry associated with the classic Dovetail form. The generous surface area allows the beauty of the stone to take center stage, while the glowing edges create a beautiful contrast against the darker interior tones.

Joel Robinson personally crafts each artwork using traditional flintknapping techniques. Through controlled percussion and pressure flaking, the stone is gradually shaped into its final form. The visible flake scars remain an integral part of the artwork, revealing the careful craftsmanship and patience required to work natural stone at this level.

The work is individually created rather than mass-produced. Each piece develops naturally as the stone reveals its own patterns, textures, and colors during the flintknapping process. This approach ensures that every artwork remains unique and faithful to the material from which it was created.

This one-of-a-kind Dovetail Spear Point combines those qualities with expert craftsmanship, creating a collectible stone artwork equally suited for galleries, private collections, offices, and home display.
