This Flint Ridge Dovetail Point is handcrafted from Flint Ridge Flint, a material admired for its remarkable range of colors and natural visual depth. The stone displays a striking composition of translucent cream near the tip that gradually blends into vibrant oranges, reds, and soft gray inclusions toward the base. The natural movement within the stone creates an almost painterly appearance, ensuring that no other piece will ever look exactly the same.
Measuring approximately 6 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, the piece features an elegant profile accented by a pronounced dovetail base. The flowing shape and carefully balanced proportions allow the natural beauty of the material to take center stage while showcasing the precision required to shape such a dramatic form.
Joel Robinson personally crafts each artwork using traditional flintknapping techniques. Through a combination of percussion and pressure flaking, the stone is gradually refined into its final form. The flake scars along the surface are not imperfections but the visible record of this centuries-old craft, revealing the care and skill invested in every stage of the process.
The work is individually created rather than mass-produced. Each strike is deliberate, allowing the natural character of the stone to guide the finished design while preserving its individuality.
Collectors appreciate pieces such as this not only for their craftsmanship but also for their natural beauty. The vibrant color palette, translucent qualities, and distinctive patterning make this Flint Ridge Dovetail Point a one-of-a-kind collectible artwork suitable for display in galleries, private collections, offices, or the home.
